Ashampstead

Ashampstead is a small village clustered around the crossroads. Near the centre of the village is a large village green.

The parish church is the 12th century Church of St. Clement's which has a 15th century wooden bell turret. St. Clement's is known for its 13th century fresco wall paintings which have been rediscovered on the north wall, chancel arch and in the chancel. They were rediscovered in the 19th century having been plastered over in the 16th century.

Outside the churchyard near the road is an old village pump.

At nearby Ashampstead Common and Burnt Hill Common are a number of ancient yew trees, one of which is estimated to be at least 800 years old.

Ashampstead is in the rural area between Reading, Newbury and Streatley.
