Tidmarsh

Tidmarsh is a small village at the foot of the eastern downs beside the River Pang about 1.5 miles before the river joins the Thames at Pangbourne. It is likely the village had Saxon origins. Much of the village, in particular the older part is spread out along the main road, the A340, which is thought to be an old Roman road which ran from Silchester to a river crossing at Pangbourne or possible on to Dorchester-on-Thames.

Location map:

Standing prominently in the centre of the village is the Greyhound Inn which originally was a 12th century cruck-framed cottage but for some time has been a grade 2 listed pub and restaurant. It suffered a serious fire in 2005 but has now been refurbished and has reopened.

The 12th Century parish church is dedicated to St Laurence. Although it has been much-rebuilt, the carved Norman doorway of the church of note as is the rare polygonal apse.
